The ballroom itself is a burst of dazzling light. Hanging from the vaulted ceiling are two gold-wrought chandeliers, both of which glow brightly over the occasion, and tall lanterns shine throughout the room.

The grand staircase descends with a flourish and opens onto the main ballroom. A balcony, which providing a clear view of the goings-on below, runs all the way around the edge of the room. It can be reached via any of the four spiral staircases in each corner of the ballroom.

Below, the wooden dance floor flickers gently in the light from above, and musicians in the side room play soft, classical music. Meg Giry, the dance mistress for tonight, is on the floor with a microphone in hand.

A low, wooden bar in the corner provides hors d’oeuvres and drinks to revelers; small tables for two sprinkle the area.

Molly smiles up at him through her mask; following his lead. She loves dancing with him, even if the yards of heavy fabric in her dress keeps her from truly enjoying how close he's holding her.

"Everyone looks beautiful," she murmurs in his ear. "And you look especially good."

"None as beautiful as you, my love."

he leans in and kisses her softly.

With the mask, it might be hard to see the blush that infuses her cheeks--pleased desire.

She returns his kiss, clinging just a little. In his formal dress, he is extremely distracting. She feels certain that she'll be seeking out a dark corner or two to take advantage of before long.

He grins at her and then wiggles a hand at a place on her dress.

One hot finger slips through a carefully concealed hole and strokes her flesh.

He leans in again.

"Love you."

Then his hands are back where they should be and he is whirling her into the next move of the dance.

Molly shivers at the contact, misstepping for a moment, and sqeezes his hand when he places it back in hers.

"Keep that up, and this will be a very short ball for us," she tells him quietly.

Her tone suggests that this wouldn't displease her all that much, even if she is curious as to who is under all of the lovely masks around them.

"You saw how long it took me to get dressed."

She had needed his help fastening everything, in fact. He probably knew how to get her out of this dress better than she did.

"A few dances at least. This feels almost like old time for me..."

he smiles a bit reminiscently.

"I can remember these dances, and the fun nights they were."

"Anything for you, love," she tells him. "But you're going to have to behave, or I won't be held responsible."

She turns in his arms, as the dance dictates, and then back again.

"I can only imagine how much fun it must have been to live in a time where this sort of ball was commonplace."

he smiles as they dance.

"To be honest, it was only the rich who went to such, as the poor could not afford it, but they were still grand events."

he whirled with her across the floor, dancing and remembering.

"And which were you at the time?"

She knows that he is incredibly wealthy now, but it couldn't have always been so.

"Sometimes one, sometimes the other. Times rose and fell and I was no different."

He smiles.

"It was an age of decadence. I had to be careful. My secret can be all-too frgile."

She nods as they continue dancing.

"The modern world makes it easier for you to hide who and what you really are. Anyone who has never set foot in Milliways would never believe you were a million years old."

ANd how amazing was it that she had found him, from a different world, and a different time?

"I love you."

And that is another miracle, in and of itself.

She returns the kiss, and then returns to the dance, content.
